The Virtual 22nd Annual U.S. and Europe Tax Practice Trends Conference took place this year during the mornings (E.D.T.) of March 26th to April 1st. It began with a private client workshop on Monday and the balance of the week focused on practical tax practice trends for multinational corporations and their tax advisors. Highlights included speakers from the O.E.C.D. and U.S. and European governments, each of whom provided insight into the way government tax officials view the international tax landscape.
HIGHLIGHTS
On April 1st, attendees joined Stanley Ruchelman for a discussion on "Breaking New Ground: Germany and Denmark Versus Cum-Ex." The panel explained the nuts and bolts of a cum-ex transaction and provided a breakdown of Denmark and Germany’s varying approaches in pursuing investors and facilitators. Panelists discussed where the Revenue Rule stands in light of a recent Court of Appeal decision in England, whether it continues to hold, and how German tax enforcement has changed as part of this process.
